Project Overview
Our project was focused on helping new moms find their way back into a healthy lifestyle, while still being able to focus most of their energy on their new family life.
The Problem
Women who have recently given birth struggle to maintain a consistent workout routine due to their busy schedule as new moms. They struggle to find practical and efficient ways to incorporate effective workouts into their new daily routine with minimal equipment needed.
The Solution
Creating a unique workout app for new moms would allow women to exercise quickly from anywhere without disrupting their work or taking time away from their children, particularly with the constant attention their newborn babies require.
The Design Thinking Process
Competitive Analysis
To start, we conducted a competitive analysis comparing 4 existing workout apps for moms. We wanted to see what the market already offered and where there was room for improvement.
In our analysis, we found that there was a lack of an app that offered workouts specifically focused on new moms as well as a community for support.
Persona
To gain a deeper understanding of the user's needs and behaviors, we conducted interviews and crafted a fictional persona using the insights gathered from those interactions.
Affinity Map
We wanted to find pain points and frustration to further empathize with our users and conclude what our next steps should be.
Summary of Insights
The insights we managed to gain through our research were very helpful in narrowing down; specific functions our workout app should have, who the app should cater to, where and when the app would be used, and what would motivate our users to use the app.
Features we have come up with
No subscription fee
Tracking time and progress
Mindfulness
Train with a friend
Meal plans
Prenatal workouts
Colorful Design
User Flow
Based on the data we collected, we created a user flow that depicts how the app should interact with potential users.
Sketches
Low Fidelity Wireframes
Mid-Fidelity Wireframes
Usability Testing
Our focus for usability testing was centered around the mid-fidelity wireframes that aim to validate the prototype based on persona goals, identify any usability issues, and gather user feedback to gain insight into improving the user experience.
Through this testing process, we wanted to understand how users interact with the app, what features they find helpful, and which areas require improvement. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that the app meets the needs of its target audience and provides a seamless, intuitive user experience.
The Changes
Better clarifying some steps enabled the participants to have a more pleasant experience when interacting with the app.
Fixed the Sign In button on the Onboarding screen.
Added a “See more” feature to My Progress from Profile.
For Task 1(Browse the app's postnatal workout selection and customize it by workout level): We simplified the Home Screen by moving the Try Other Workouts feature to the bottom of the page in a carousel and listed the Workout Categories to have the main focus on the Home screen.
We changed the Explore button at the bottom of the screen into Home.
For Task 2 - we enabled the Scrollable list of Workout Categories.
For Task 3 - we added the option to be able to access the Profile screen from the profile icon at the top right corner.

What I learned
This was one of my very first designs and I must say, first of all, it was amazing to be able to create a product from start to finish!
From empathizing with our users to making design iterations and being willing to ask deeper questions. It’s a lot more than just what meets the eye.
I enjoyed being a part of this project and would like to thank my team mate for all the help and guidance throughout our process!
Thank you for reading my case study!
